Massive North Star Polaris Surprises Scientists at the Naval Observatory With Its Size
http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/astronomy/polaris_size_000614.html
The star was found to have a radius of about 46 times that of the sun, or about 20 million miles (32 million kilometers).

North Star's Unseen Companion Photographed

A small red dwarf star has erupted with the brightest flare ever seen from a normal star other than the Sun. If the star hosted planets, the flare could have killed any life that might have existed on the unlucky worlds.

Normally, EV Lacertae, which lies 16 light years from Earth, is far too dim to see without a telescope.

Nearest planetary system boasts two asteroid belts
The belts were found in orbit around the nearby star Epsilon Eridani, which sits just 10.5 light years from Earth…
Now, two rocky asteroid belts have been found much closer to the star, a new study suggests. Dana Backman of the SETI Institute in Mountain View, California, and colleagues caught the warmer glow of the two belts using NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope, which images objects at infrared wavelengths.

Violent jet detected spewing from brown dwarf
Now, researchers led by Emma Whelan of Ireland's Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS) have observed a jet stretching 1.5 billion kilometres from a young brown dwarf in a stellar nursery called Rho Ophiuchi.
Previous observations had hinted at brown dwarf jets, but they had been too faint to see directly.

A mysterious surplus of energetic particles called cosmic rays is striking the Earth from the direction of the constellation Cygnus, suggests a controversial new study.
